This weekend Springfield is honoring Abraham Lincoln in commemoration of his death 150 years ago. There was a live reenactment of the funeral procession early in the day, but we were unable to attend due to the soccer game. We came downtown this afternoon to check it all out. Alex has really become intrigued with Abraham Lincoln as of late. He's brought several books home from the library and has asked lots of questions. He really wants to go see where he was shot in Washington, DC.
We were able to see a replica of the horse drawn hearse and pay our respects at the casket. There so many people dressed in period appropriate clothing, we saw the changing of the guards, and really felt the heaviness of the moment. I wasn't able to take many photos, as my camera battery died. A pretty cool event to be a part of. Afterwards we walked down to Del's Popcorn shop and got a little treat with gift cards the kids got last year for their birthday.
