Alex went in today for surgery. He got another set of tubes put in and his adnoids removed. Dr. Garcia also drew blood to check for some allergies. Alex did pretty well until we had to hand him over to the nurse to be taken to the operating room. I made the mistake of turning around and looking at him one more time and it broke my heart. He was screaming and crying and yelling for us. I don't know what I was thinking!!! Luckily we weren't apart for very long, only about an hour. Dr. Garcia told us that both of Alex's ears were full of puss and didn't look good. We weren't surprised by this at all, and are beyond hopeful that these tubes will do the trick.
When we were allowed to go back to the recovery room, Alex was crying and inconsolable. More than anything he was upset that they still had an IV in him, and to make matters worse it was in his left hand so he couldn't suck his fingers because his hand was all wrapped up. He kept crying and yelling 'on' which really means off and fighting Adam trying to pull it out. Finally they took the IV out and Adam handed him to me and he laid down on me and passed out! We were able to go home around 10:30 am and Alex slept until 2:30. He woke up feeling pretty good, watched movies with his Sissy and ate a great supper. Nana & Gabbi also stopped by on the way home from their vacation in the Wisconsin Dells and Alex was beyond thrilled to see Gabbi.
Alex is on an antibiotic for the next 10 days and we go back for a follow-up in about a month. Praying that we get a clean bill of health!!
